Ganed Robert Meigant Jones ('Meigant') yn 1851 a chafodd ei fagu yn Llanfair Talhaearn. Bu farw ei fam pan oedd Meigant yn bedair oed. Yr oedd hi yn chwaer Robert Davies, 'Bardd Nantglyn', felly yr oedd barddoniaeth rhan bwysig ei etifeddiaeth. Fe ddaeth i Gaernarfon yn 1872 yn 21 oedd ac yno roedd yn byw am weddill ei oes. Fe ddaeth yno i weithio fel teilior (crefft deuliol) ond wedyn dyfod yn postmon. Yr oedd y cylch llenyddol ei hoff gwmni ynghyd â'r bobl capel Caersalem (y Bedyddwyr). Bu dan weinidogaeth Robert Ellis (Cynddelw) hyd at 1875. Fe ddaeth Meigant yn gyfaill agos i John Thomas (Eifionydd), cychwynnydd a golygydd Y Geninen, a chynhwysodd ef nifer o englynion Meigant yn ei gylchgrawn. Enillodd Meigant wobrau am ei farddoniaeth, megis cadeiriau ym Mhwllheli a Llandudno. Fe wasanaethodd fel ysgrifennydd pwyllgor Llawlyfr Moliant 1890. Bu farw yn 1899, yn 47 mlwydd oed. Robert Meigant Jones ('Meigant') was born in 1851 and grew up in Llanfair Talhaearn. His mother died when he was four years old. She was a sister of Robert Davies, 'Bard of Nantglyn', so poetry was part of his heritage. He came to Caernarfon in 1872 at the age of 21 and lived there for the rest of his life. He came to work as a tailor (a family trade) but later became a postman. His favourite company was the literary circle together with the people of Caersalem (Baptist) chapel. He was under the ministry of Robert Ellis (Cynddelw) until 1875. Meigant became a close friend of John Thomas (Eifionydd), founder and editor of Y Geninen, who included a number of Meigant's englyns in his magazine. Meigant won prizes for his poetry, including the chairs in Phwllheli and Llandudno. He served as secretary of the committee of Llawlyfr Moliant 1890. He died in 1899, at 47 years of age. Here are the English versions of his hymns:
